Idaho Pea and Lentil Commission

For more than 60 years, the Idaho Pea & Lentil Commission (IDPLC) has worked to strengthen Idaho’s pulse industry through research, market development, and policy leadership.

The IDPLC achieves this through Idaho grower investment, a 1% assessment on all dry peas, lentils, and chickpeas sold by Idaho pulse crop growers. The IDPLC is a Governor-appointed commission made up of Idaho pulse growers from across the state. The Commission meets quarterly to make decisions that benefit Idaho growers.

The Idaho Pea & Lentil Commission (IDPLC) is authorized by Title 22, Chapter 35 of the Idaho statutes. The Commission was formed more than 60 years ago to provide a means for the development of markets, production research, new product development, and the promotion of dry peas (including chickpeas) and lentils grown in Idaho. Every five years, the Commission is required to poll growers on the advisability of continuing the commission.

One of the organizations supported by the IDPLC is USA Pulses, a non-profit national commodity organization dedicated to increasing demand and production for pulse crops. USA Pulses, formerly the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council (USADPLC), is contracted by the Idaho Pea & Lentil Commission to conduct programming in domestic and international marketing, research, communication, education, and policy, as authorized by Idaho statutes.

For every $1 invested by Idaho growers, more than $15 is delivered across the pulse industry through research, market development, and policy education. These investments support programs that strengthen the competitiveness of U.S. pulses, expand market opportunities, and ensure the industry has the tools and information needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving global food system.
